Google Ads for Packers and Movers: Keywords and Campaign Setup

Google Ads for packers and movers works when each service and route has its own ad group, a strong negative keyword list blocks job and parcel searches, and every call, WhatsApp chat and quote form is tracked.

Key takeaways

  • Split campaigns into ad groups by service and route (household, office, car and bike, intercity, storage, local areas), each sending clicks to its own matching page.
  • Start with phrase and exact match on core terms, and add a starter negative keyword list for jobs, vehicle sales, franchises, boxes, courier and free or DIY searches.
  • New call ads can no longer be created, so put your number on responsive search ads as a call asset, scheduled for the hours someone answers.
  • Track calls, WhatsApp clicks and quote forms as conversions, then read the search terms report every week and act on it.

Which keywords should packers and movers bid on?

Bid on searches that show a person is ready to book a specific move: the service (house, office, car, bike, storage), the place (city, sector, “near me”) or the route (“Gurgaon to Pune”). Group them by service so each ad and landing page talks about exactly what was searched.

If you are still deciding whether paid ads suit your business at all, our Google Ads vs SEO guide for movers covers that choice. This post assumes you have decided to run ads and want a setup you can build this week. The table below is a starting structure for a mover based in Gurgaon; swap in your own city, areas and routes.

Storagehousehold storage gurgaon, furniture storage, storage during shiftingStorage page explaining how goods are packed, stored and returned
  • One theme per ad group: keep each group to a handful of close keywords so the ad text can repeat the search.
  • Routes earn their own groups: a busy route such as Gurgaon to Bangalore usually deserves its own ad group and page; quiet routes can share one intercity group.

Which match types should movers use?

Start with phrase and exact match on your core service and route terms, because they give you control while conversion data is thin. Move some groups to broad match later, once conversions are tracked reliably and you use Smart Bidding.

Google’s keyword matching options page describes three match types. Broad match is the default and can show ads on related searches, using signals such as recent search activity and your landing page; Google says it is critical to use Smart Bidding with broad match. Phrase match (keyword in quotes) shows ads on searches that include the meaning of your keyword. Exact match (keyword in square brackets) shows ads on searches with the same meaning or intent, and reaches the fewest searches. Broader types also cover the searches of narrower ones.

Match typeHow you write itWhere it fits for movers
Exact[packers and movers gurgaon to pune]Proven route and service terms where you want tight control
Phrase"office shifting gurgaon"Core service terms when you are starting out
Broadhousehold shifting gurgaonLater, with conversion tracking and Smart Bidding in place, to find new searches

What negative keywords should packers and movers add?

Add negatives for searches that look like moving but are not customers: jobs and driver vacancies, trucks or tempos for sale, franchise enquiries, packing material wholesale, free or DIY searches, and small courier parcels. Treat the table below as a starter list and adapt it to what you actually sell.

ThemeExample negative keywordsWhy, and when not to add it
Jobsjob, jobs, vacancy, hiring, salary, driver job, helper job, recruitmentJob seekers click mover ads often. Keep these unless you advertise your own hiring separately.
Vehicles for saletruck for sale, tempo for sale, used truck, second hand, truck price, truck loanBuyers of vehicles, not movers. Do not block “tempo on rent” if you offer a tempo with labour for small moves.
Business opportunityfranchise, dealership, business plan, how to start, registrationPeople wanting to open a moving business, not hire one.
Packing suppliescardboard boxes wholesale, carton manufacturer, bubble wrap price, packing material supplierSupply buyers. Skip this theme if you sell boxes and tape to customers.
Free and DIYfree, diy, self packing, how to pack, packing tipsResearch searches rarely book. Your blog can serve them through SEO instead.
Small parcelscourier, parcel, documents, speed post, trackingCourier customers want a packet sent, not a home moved. Check that “bike parcel” style searches are not ones you serve.
Information and studymeaning, course, training, pdf, project report, wikipediaStudents and researchers, not customers.

Two details from Google’s negative keywords help page change how you build this list. First, negative keywords do not match close variants, so add singular and plural forms yourself: “job” and “jobs” are separate entries. Second, negatives have their own match types. A negative broad keyword blocks searches containing all its words in any order, negative phrase blocks the words in that order, and negative exact blocks only that exact search.

  • Use a shared list: Google lets you build a negative keyword list once and apply it to many campaigns, so one update covers household, office and route campaigns together.
  • Block wrong routes carefully: if you never go to a particular city, add that city as a negative in the intercity campaign only, not account-wide.
  • Do not over-block: words like “cheap” or “rates” often come from real customers comparing quotes. Judge them by your own search terms, not by guesswork.

How should movers set locations, ad schedule and seasons?

Target the areas where you can actually pick up goods, choose Presence or “Presence or interest” deliberately for each campaign, and show ads mainly when someone can answer the phone. Raise effort ahead of your busy periods rather than after they start.

Google’s location options offer two settings. “Presence or interest” reaches people in your locations and people who have shown interest in them, and Google recommends it for Search. “Presence” reaches people based on their physical presence in your locations, and Google suggests it when you only want users in those places.

  • Local household and office campaigns: Presence is usually the safer start. Someone in another state reading about Gurgaon is rarely booking a local shift from Sohna Road.
  • Intercity route campaigns: “Presence or interest” is worth testing, because a family moving from Pune to Gurgaon may search before they leave. Only do this if you can arrange the pickup at their end.
  • Draw the map honestly: target Gurgaon and the Delhi NCR areas you serve, such as Delhi, Noida and Faridabad, and exclude places you cannot reach.

By default, campaigns run all day, according to Google’s ad scheduling page, and you can set specific days and hours or raise and lower bids for them. For a mover, a practical pattern is to run search ads with a quote form through the day and evening, but schedule the call asset only for the hours your office answers calls. A missed call from a paid click is often a lost booking.

Moving demand in India tends to rise around month-ends and month-starts when rentals change, in summer holidays, before a new school session, in job transfer periods and on dates families consider auspicious. Use your own past enquiry dates: raise budgets and add route ad groups a little before busy weeks, and trim them in quiet months.

Call assets, WhatsApp and lead forms: which should movers use?

Put your number on every search ad as a call asset, add a WhatsApp message asset if your account can use it, and send clicks to a quote-form landing page. Treat Google’s in-ad lead form as a test, not the main channel.

  • Call assets: call assets add a call button to your ads on mobile and a “Call us” button on desktop. In the asset’s advanced options you can set the days and hours it shows, so the number appears only when the phone is answered.
  • Call ads are being retired: Google’s call ads page says options to create new call ads were removed in February 2026 and existing call ads stop receiving impressions in February 2027. If you still run call-only style ads, move the number to call assets on responsive search ads now.
  • WhatsApp message assets: message assets add a button that opens a chat on your WhatsApp Business number, on Search and Performance Max campaigns. Google lists them as beta and requires Advertiser verification, so they may not be available in every account yet.
  • Location assets: location assets, usually linked to your Google Business Profile, can show your address or distance with the ad, which helps people check you are a genuine local business. Our Google Business Profile guide for movers covers the profile itself.

Lead form assets let a searcher submit details inside the ad, on Search and Performance Max. They need a privacy policy link, an eligible account and a conversion-focused bidding strategy, and Google stores the leads for a limited period, so they must be downloaded or sent to your CRM through email alerts or a webhook.

For most movers the landing page should do the main job. Our guide to moving quote forms that convert explains which fields to ask for and which to leave out.

How do you write mover ads that people trust and Google approves?

Use specific, checkable facts: the services you really offer, your area, a written quote, a GST number and a real address. Avoid fake badges, claims of government approval and offers you cannot deliver, which Google’s Misrepresentation policy treats seriously.

Moving customers worry about hidden charges and damaged goods, so the ad and page should answer those worries plainly. Google’s Misrepresentation policy prohibits, among other things, implying support from another brand, organisation or government body, hiding or misstating your identity, pricing that gives a false impression of the cost, improbable claims and promoting offers that are not available on the landing page. Google calls violations egregious, and accounts can be suspended without prior warning.

Write this (if true)Avoid this
Written, itemised quote before the moveLow “starting from” rates that hide packing, labour or toll charges
GST registered, invoice provided“Government approved” or “verified” badges no authority issued
Office on Sohna Road, GurgaonListing cities you cannot serve
Free pre-move survey at your home“Free packing” or other offers not shown on the page
Transit insurance option on request“Zero damage” or similar promises nobody can keep
Call or WhatsApp for a quote todayAnother mover’s brand name in headlines

Write headlines that repeat the search (“House Shifting in Gurgaon”), state one trust point (“Written Quote Before Moving”) and give one action (“Call or WhatsApp for a Survey”). The landing page should then show the same facts: GST number, real address and the survey and quote steps.

How do you track calls, WhatsApp and quote forms as conversions?

Set up a separate conversion action for each way a customer contacts you: calls from the ad, calls from the website, WhatsApp clicks and quote form submissions. Without this, Google’s bidding and your own decisions are guesswork.

  1. Calls from ads: turn on call reporting so calls from call assets are measured. Google’s forwarding number page lists India among the supported countries, with a note that on some calls the caller ID shows a Google number instead of the customer’s.
  2. Calls from your website: Google can track calls to a number on your website by showing a forwarding number to ad visitors. Set a minimum call length so short or wrong-number calls do not count.
  3. Tap-to-call and WhatsApp buttons: clicks on a number, button or link on your mobile site can be counted as conversions. Google notes this measures the click, not the call itself, and a WhatsApp click likewise shows someone opened a chat, not that they sent a message.
  4. Quote forms: count a submission when the visitor reaches the thank-you page or the form confirms success, never on page load.
  5. Message assets: if you use them, the “Leads from Messages” goal becomes available once the asset is approved.
  6. Bookings: note in a sheet or CRM which leads became confirmed moves, and which ad group they came from. A CRM for packers and movers makes this easy to keep up.

Test every conversion yourself after setup: make a call from the ad preview, tap the WhatsApp button and submit a test quote, then check each one appears in Google Ads before you trust the numbers.

How should you read the search terms report every week?

Once a week, open the search terms report, block what is irrelevant, promote what converts and fix pages that do not match what people searched. A short, regular review often saves more wasted spend than any single setting change.

The search terms report shows the actual searches that triggered your ads, under Campaigns, then Insights and reports, then Search terms. Google leaves out some low-volume searches for privacy, so the report never shows everything.

  1. Turn on the Keyword column so you can see which of your keywords matched each search.
  2. Sort by cost or clicks and read the top searches first.
  3. Add irrelevant searches as negatives, at campaign level or in your shared list: new job terms, cities you do not serve, parcel searches.
  4. Add searches that brought calls or forms as phrase or exact keywords in the right ad group.
  5. Spot new routes or localities people search for and decide whether they deserve their own ad group and page.
  6. Write down what you changed and the date, so next week you can see the effect.

Once a month, step back and compare confirmed bookings, not just leads, by ad group. A route group with fewer leads but more bookings is often worth more budget than a busy local group full of price shoppers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What keywords should packers and movers use in Google Ads?

Use keywords that name a service, a place or a route, such as household shifting in your city, office relocation, car transport, storage, “packers and movers near me” and “city to city” route searches. Group them into separate ad groups by service and route, and send each group to a landing page about that exact service so the ad, the keyword and the page match.

What negative keywords should packers and movers add?

Start with job terms (job, jobs, vacancy, driver job), vehicle sales (truck for sale, used tempo), franchise and business terms, packing material wholesale, free and DIY searches, and courier or parcel terms. Add singular and plural forms separately, because negative keywords do not match close variants. Then adapt the list weekly using your own search terms report.

Can movers still create call-only ads in Google Ads?

No. Google’s help page on call ads says options to create new call ads were removed in February 2026, and existing call ads stop receiving impressions in February 2027. Movers who want phone enquiries should add their number to responsive search ads as a call asset, and schedule that asset for the hours someone is available to answer calls.

Is a Google lead form asset better than a landing page for movers?

Not usually as the main channel. A lead form asset is quick for the customer, but captures fewer move details and shows few trust signals. A quote-form landing page can show your address, GST number, real packing photos and process, and ask for move from/to, home size and date. Many movers test lead forms alongside a strong landing page.

How much do Google Ads cost for packers and movers?

There is no fixed figure, and no one can promise a cost per lead. Cost depends on how many movers bid on the same searches in your area, the services and routes you target, your ad and landing page quality, your locations and schedule, and the season. Tight negative keywords and matching landing pages usually stretch the same budget further.
