What size should Google Business Profile photos be?

Upload JPG or PNG photos between 10 KB and 5 MB. Google recommends 720 px tall by 720 px wide and accepts a minimum of 250 px by 250 px. Videos can be up to 30 seconds and 75 MB, at 720p or higher. The description field allows up to 750 characters. We checked every figure below on Google’s own help pages on 26 October 2026.

Photos and videos show on Google only after your Business Profile is verified, and Google says it can take 24–48 hours before new media appears.

Is there a cover photo or banner size?

No. Google’s help pages do not give a fixed size for the cover photo, the logo or any banner, so the general photo standards above apply to them too. Many websites quote a "GBP banner size", but a Business Profile has no banner field. What it has is a cover photo, a logo and business photos.

  • Cover photo: Google asks you to set one at the top of your profile that represents your business, but says this does not always make it the first image shown. If your cover photo is low quality, or other sources suggest it doesn’t represent the business well, a user-submitted photo may be selected instead.
  • Logo: Google highlights the logo for businesses that have their basic information filled in. If your logo is missing, Google asks you to check the name, a valid street address, categories, phone number and opening hours.
  • Practical sizing: since no crop size is published, upload at or above 720 px on each side, keep the main subject in the centre and leave text off the image.

Which photos should you upload? A checklist

Google’s tips for business-specific photos suggest at least three photos in each relevant group. Shoot them yourself, at your own premises:

  • Exterior (at least 3): one from each direction customers approach, at different times of day, so a visitor on Golf Course Road or in a busy market lane can spot your entrance.
  • Interior (at least 3): what it is truly like to stand inside as a customer, such as the reception, waiting area or shop floor.
  • Products (at least 3): your popular items, evenly lit.
  • At work (at least 3): your team providing different services. Google’s team photo tips suggest showing yourself and your staff; if someone prefers not to be identified, hands packing a carton or adjusting a machine still show the work.
  • Team (at least 3): management and employees, a little less formal.
  • Category-specific: food and drink for restaurants, rooms and common areas for hotels.

Add new photos when something real changes: a renovated shop, new equipment or a new product range.

Why do photos get rejected or replaced?

Google reviews every upload against its policies, and low-quality media may be removed. After upload, a photo shows as Pending, Not approved or Live. Google’s tips for posting media to Maps explain what counts as good quality:

  • Use photos you captured with a camera at the location. Avoid screenshots, stock photos, GIFs, collages and imagery made by other parties.
  • Make the place the main subject, not a selfie or a group.
  • Keep edits minimal; fixing rotation or lighting is fine, heavy filters are not.
  • Avoid borders, added text and collaged images; any superimposed promotional content should be relevant to the place.
  • Avoid blurry, dark or shaky media.

Google adds that quality removals can’t be appealed, so fix the photo and upload a better one instead.

What is the Google Business Profile description character limit?

750 characters. Google’s Edit your Business Profile page says not to exceed 750 characters in the description field, which shows in the "From the business" section.

Three example descriptions within 750 characters

Each example below stays under 750 characters, has no links, prices or offers, and describes the business in plain words. Replace the brackets and change any detail that isn’t true for you.

Clinic (638 characters): [Clinic name] is a family medicine clinic on Sohna Road, Gurgaon, serving patients since [year]. Our doctors see adults and children for fever, infections, diabetes and blood pressure follow-ups, minor injuries and routine vaccinations. Blood samples for common tests are collected at the clinic, and reports can be sent to your phone. The clinic is on the ground floor with step-free entry and a waiting area for families. Patients visit us from nearby sectors, Badshahpur and Sohna. Walk-ins are welcome during clinic hours, or call ahead to book a time with a doctor. Please bring earlier prescriptions and reports on your first visit.

Gym (648 characters): [Gym name] is a fitness gym in Sector 29, Gurgaon, open since [year]. The training floor has strength machines, free weights, a functional training area and cardio equipment, with separate changing rooms and lockers for men and women. Trainers help new members with a starting plan, correct form and a progress check every month. Group classes include strength circuits, yoga and dance fitness through the week, and personal training is available by appointment. Early-morning and late-evening slots suit people working in Cyber City and nearby offices. Visit for a walk-through of the gym before you join, and ask the front desk for class timings.

Packers and movers (632 characters): [Company name] is a packers and movers company based in Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon, working since [year]. We handle household shifting within Gurgaon and across Delhi NCR, intercity moves to other states, office relocation, car and bike transport, and short-term storage. Our own team packs with cartons, bubble wrap and stretch film, and dismantles and reassembles furniture at the new home. Before every move we survey the goods, share a written item list and confirm the moving date. Transit insurance can be arranged on request. Call us with your shifting date and both addresses, and we will plan the survey at a time that suits you.

Each example says what the business offers, where it works and since when. None of them says "lowest rates", "flat discount" or "visit our website", because Google’s guidelines rule out promotions, prices and links.

Photos and the description sit alongside other fields that Google’s guidelines for representing your business control just as closely.

  • Name: your real-world name as used on your signboard, website and stationery. Taglines, phone numbers, URLs and hours in the name are not permitted, and unnecessary information could lead to suspension.
  • Categories: as few as possible and as specific as possible; Google lets you add up to 9 more after the primary one, but not as keywords.
  • Service area: if you don’t meet customers at your address, you can hide it; the overall area shouldn’t extend farther than about 2 hours of driving time from your base.
  • Phone: a primary number plus up to 2 more, mobile or landline but not fax.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Google Business Profile image size?

Google’s photo guidelines ask for JPG or PNG files between 10 KB and 5 MB. The recommended resolution is 720 px tall by 720 px wide, and the minimum is 250 px tall by 250 px wide. Photos should be in focus, well lit and free of significant alterations or heavy filters, so the image represents reality.

What size should a Google Business Profile cover photo or banner be?

Google does not publish a separate size for the cover photo or logo, and a Business Profile has no banner field. The general photo standards apply: JPG or PNG, 10 KB to 5 MB, at least 250 × 250 px and ideally 720 × 720 px or larger. Keep the subject centred and avoid adding text.

Why isn’t my cover photo showing first?

Google says setting a cover photo doesn’t always make it the first image for your business. If the cover photo is low quality, or other sources suggest it doesn’t represent the business well, a user-submitted photo may be selected instead. Uploading a sharp, well-lit exterior or interior photo taken at your premises gives Google a better option.

What is the Google Business Profile description character limit?

Google’s Edit your Business Profile page says not to exceed 750 characters in the description field. Spaces and punctuation count toward that total. Use the space for what you offer, what makes you different, how long you’ve been in business and anything else customers find helpful, and check the count before you paste.

Can I add my website link, prices or offers in the description?

No. Google’s guidelines say no links of any type are allowed in the business description, and its edit page says not to include URLs or HTML code. The description should also not focus on special promotions, prices or sales. Your website has its own field on the profile, and offers belong in posts.

What video length and size does Google accept?

Google’s video guidelines for Business Profiles allow videos up to 30 seconds long and up to 75 MB in file size, at a resolution of 720p or higher. As with photos, videos are reviewed against Google’s policies, show only after the profile is verified and can take 24 to 48 hours to appear.

Why are my photos not showing on my profile?

Photos and videos show only after your Business Profile is verified. New uploads are reviewed and can take 24 to 48 hours to appear. A Pending status means the media is still processing or the profile is unverified, while Not approved means it was flagged for a policy issue. Check for duplicates and try the upload again.
