Khudan

Recording that outlasts the power cut.

Khudan is a village in Jhajjar district with a population of 4,793 at the 2011 Census, according to Wikipedia, which also names it as the home village of the wrestler Bajrang Punia and mentions a temple of Swami Nityanand Maharaj and an old Shiva temple. Wikipedia's article on Sarola places Khudan 1.8 km from that village, inside the same group of villages our Kasni team covers for CCTV and WiFi broadband.

The question we hear most in villages is not which camera to buy but what happens when the light goes. A CCTV system has three parts that need electricity: the cameras, the DVR or NVR that records them, and the router that sends the picture to your phone. If any one of them loses power, the system goes blind or drops offline, and a cut at night is exactly when you want recording to carry on.

There are three common ways to cover a cut. A UPS is the quickest: Wikipedia describes it as giving near-instantaneous protection when the mains fails, with a switch-over of up to about 25 milliseconds on standby models, but notes that its battery runtime is relatively short, typically 5 to 15 minutes. That is why, for long village cuts, CCTV is usually wired to the house inverter and its larger batteries, or to a rooftop solar system that has batteries. A camera far from any supply, such as at a tubewell room in the fields, can run on its own small solar panel and battery and send video over a 4G SIM.

What needs backup power in a Khudan CCTV system

  • Every camera, through its adaptor, power supply box or PoE switch
  • The DVR or NVR, so recording does not stop
  • The broadband router, so live view on your phone keeps working
  • The network switch, if the cameras are IP cameras
  • The monitor, only if you want to watch indoors during a cut

CCTV Camera Installation

CCTV planned around power cuts in Khudan.

Cameras and backup are sized together after the survey, so the system in Khudan keeps recording when the supply drops.

  • A small, known loadEfficient cameras on one power supply or PoE switch keep the load low, so your backup lasts longer.
  • One backed-up circuitThe cameras, recorder and router are wired to a single circuit on the inverter or UPS, not scattered across the house.
  • Solar camera for far spotsFor a tubewell room or field gate with no supply, a camera with its own solar panel, battery and 4G SIM.
  • Offline alertsThe app can tell you when a camera or the recorder goes offline, so you know when the backup has run out.
  • Recording resumes by itselfThe recorder is set to start up and resume recording on its own when power returns, with no button to press.
  • Live view through the cutWith the router on backup too, you can still watch from your phone while the village is dark.

Who installs CCTV cameras in Khudan, Jhajjar?

DVM Techno does, from its branch office in Kasni in the same part of Jhajjar district. We fit HD cameras with a DVR, IP cameras with an NVR, and colour night-vision, WiFi and PTZ cameras, plan the power backup for them, and set up live viewing on your phone. A free site survey and a written quote come first. Call or WhatsApp +91-8448523313, Monday to Saturday, 9 AM to 7 PM.

Does CCTV work when there is no electricity?

Not on its own. The cameras, the DVR or NVR and the router all need power. During a cut they keep working only if they are connected to a UPS, an inverter or a solar system with batteries. Without that, recording stops when the supply goes and starts again when it comes back, leaving a gap in the footage.

Should I use a UPS or my house inverter for CCTV?

A UPS switches over almost instantly, but a typical unit runs for minutes rather than hours. A house inverter with large batteries runs much longer and is what most village homes rely on for long cuts. Many people connect the CCTV to the inverter and, if the recorder restarts when the inverter takes over, add a small UPS for the recorder and router.

How long will my inverter run the cameras?

It depends on the battery capacity, its age and condition, how many cameras you have and what else is on the inverter. A few cameras, a recorder and a router usually draw much less than a cooler or several fans, so the CCTV adds a modest load. At the survey we list that load so you can judge it against your inverter.

Can I run CCTV cameras on solar power?

Yes, in two ways. If the house has rooftop solar with batteries, the CCTV can be put on its backed-up output. For a spot with no supply at all, such as a field gate or tubewell room, a camera with its own solar panel and battery that sends video over a 4G SIM is an option, though it needs a sunny mounting spot and a mobile signal there.

Will the recorder lose footage if the power goes suddenly?

Footage already written to the hard disk normally stays, but a sudden cut interrupts recording, and repeated hard shutdowns are not good for the disk over time. Putting the recorder on a UPS or inverter avoids sudden shutdowns, which is one reason we plan the backup with the cameras.

Can I still watch my cameras on my phone during a power cut?

Only if the router, and the internet connection's own equipment, are also on backup. If they are, live view keeps working; if not, the recorder may keep recording locally but your phone shows the cameras as offline until power returns. If the house needs internet, ask about our WiFi broadband in Khudan.

Which cameras and brands can I get for my home in Khudan?

HD dome and bullet cameras on a DVR, IP cameras on an NVR with a PoE switch, WiFi cameras for rooms where a cable is hard to run, cloud cameras whose footage is viewed and stored through the maker's cloud app, solar-powered cameras for far spots, PTZ cameras for a big plot, colour night-vision cameras and a video door phone. Brands we install include Hikvision, Dahua, CP Plus, Uniview, Prama, Honeywell and Bosch.
