Surehti

Keeping the footage you will need.

Surehti lies in the stretch of Jhajjar district around the Khaparwas and Bhindawas wildlife sanctuaries. Wikipedia names Surehti among the villages adjacent to Khaparwas Wildlife Sanctuary, an 82.70-hectare reserve declared on 30 January 1987, along with Khaparwas, Bhindawas, Chandol and Dhakla, and its article on Bhindawas village lists Surehti among its neighbours too. Homes, shops and farms here have the same question as everywhere else once the cameras are up: if something happened ten days ago, is it still on the recorder?

The answer depends on four things. The number of cameras, because each one adds to what is written to the disk every second. Their resolution, because a 4MP or 8MP picture takes much more space than a 2MP one. Whether they record all the time or only when there is motion, which for a quiet gate at night can cut storage use sharply. And the compression the recorder uses. Wikipedia notes that H.265, also called High Efficiency Video Coding, can give from 25 to 50 per cent better data compression than the older H.264 standard, so the same disk holds noticeably more days.

Every DVR and NVR records in a loop: when the hard disk is full, it overwrites the oldest footage and carries on. That is why the size of the disk decides how far back you can go, and why anything important should be copied off as soon as you find it. A small home system often starts with a 1 TB or 2 TB surveillance-grade disk, and bigger systems use larger disks or two of them. Cloud backup adds a second copy away from the house, usually holding the last 7 to 30 days, so the footage survives even if a thief takes the recorder or a fire or flood damages it.

What decides how many days your CCTV keeps

  • How many cameras write to the recorder
  • The resolution of each camera, from 2MP up to 4K
  • Continuous recording or recording only on motion
  • H.265 or the older H.264 compression
  • The size of the hard disk, and whether there is a cloud copy

  • Cloud backupA second copy of footage in the cloud for 7 to 30 days, safe even if the recorder is stolen.
  • Playback on your phoneScroll back through the recordings by date and time in the app, and save a clip to your phone.

Who installs CCTV cameras in Surehti, Jhajjar?

DVM Techno, from its branch office in Kasni in Jhajjar district. We fit HD cameras with a DVR, IP cameras with an NVR, colour night-vision, WiFi and PTZ cameras for homes, shops and farms in Surehti, with live view on your phone and the recording sized for the days you want to keep. How many days of recording does a CCTV system keep?

There is no single number. It depends on the number of cameras, their resolution, whether they record all the time or only on motion, the compression and the hard disk size. Tell us how many days you want to be able to go back, and we size the disk to match at the survey.

What size hard disk do I need for CCTV?

A small home system with a few cameras often starts with a 1 TB or 2 TB disk; more cameras, higher resolution or a longer history need a larger disk, or two. Use a surveillance-grade disk, which is built to write all day, rather than an ordinary computer disk.

What happens when the CCTV hard disk is full?

The recorder overwrites the oldest footage and keeps recording, so it never stops for lack of space. The catch is that old footage disappears on its own, so copy any clip you need to a phone or pen drive as soon as you find it.

Is cloud backup worth it for CCTV?

It is useful when the recorder itself is at risk, for example in a shop or a farmhouse where a thief could take it, or where fire or water could damage it. The cloud copy is kept away from the site, usually for 7 to 30 days, and you watch it in the maker's app. It needs a steady internet connection at the site.

Does motion recording save space?

Yes, often a lot. A camera on a quiet gate at night may see movement for only a few minutes an hour, so recording only then stores far less. Cameras on a busy road or shop counter save less, and many owners keep those on continuous recording.

Can I save a CCTV clip to my phone?

Yes. In the camera app you can play back the recording, pick the time and download the clip to your phone, or copy it from the recorder to a pen drive. We show you both at handover.

Which camera types and brands are available in Surehti?

HD dome and bullet cameras on a DVR, IP cameras on an NVR, WiFi cameras that can record to an SD card, cloud cameras whose footage you view and store through the maker's cloud app, PTZ cameras for a big plot, colour night-vision cameras and a video door phone at the gate. We install Hikvision, Dahua, CP Plus, Uniview, Prama, Honeywell and Bosch.
