Key takeaways
- Searches like “packers and movers gurgaon to bangalore” name both cities, so give each main route its own ad group, ad text and landing page.
- Google targets locations at campaign level, so keep local shifting and intercity moves in separate campaigns with their own location settings and budgets.
- “Presence or interest” can reach a customer who is already in the destination city but searching for your route; “Presence” suits local campaigns.
- Judge routes by confirmed bookings, not clicks, and move budget between route campaigns on that basis.
What is a route campaign for intercity packers and movers?
A route campaign is a Google Ads Search campaign built only for long-distance moves, where each ad group targets one route, such as Gurgaon to Bangalore, and sends clicks to a page about that route. It keeps intercity enquiries, which are fewer and larger jobs, away from the local shifting campaign.
Google’s autocomplete shows how people actually search for these moves. Typing “packers and movers gurgaon to” brings up routes such as “packers and movers gurgaon to bangalore”, “gurgaon to pune”, “gurgaon to mumbai”, “gurgaon to kolkata”, “gurgaon to patna”, “gurgaon to hyderabad” and “gurgaon to lucknow”, plus versions that start with “from gurgaon to”. Other people search more generally: “intercity packers and movers gurgaon”, “long distance packers and movers” or “intercity packers and movers near me”.
Each of those searches names where the goods start and end, which is why routes deserve separate treatment. A local campaign is about sectors and areas you cover; a route campaign is about the pair of cities, the distance, and whether you can actually do that move well. If you are still setting up your keyword list, negatives and match types, start with our Google Ads keywords and setup guide for movers; this post builds on it and covers only what changes for intercity work.
- Outbound routes: customers leaving your city, such as Gurgaon to Pune. Pickup is near you, which is usually the easier job to win.
- Inbound routes: customers moving into your city, such as Bangalore to Gurgaon. Pickup is far away, so only advertise these if you have your own team or a reliable arrangement for packing at the other end.
- Generic intercity: searches that name no route, like “long distance packers and movers”. These need a page that asks for move from and move to straight away.
How should you structure route campaigns in Google Ads?
Use separate campaigns for local moves, outbound routes, inbound routes and generic intercity searches, and inside each route campaign create one ad group per busy route. Quiet routes can share a single “other cities” ad group until they earn their own.
The table below is a starting structure for a mover based in Gurgaon. Replace the cities with your own busiest routes from past enquiry and booking records.
| Campaign | Ad groups | Example keywords | Location setting to start with | Landing page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Local shifting (Gurgaon) | Household, office, near me, localities | packers and movers in gurgaon, house shifting sohna road | Gurgaon and the NCR areas you serve, Presence | Local shifting and area pages |
| Outbound routes | Gurgaon to Bangalore, Gurgaon to Pune, Gurgaon to Mumbai, Other cities | packers and movers gurgaon to bangalore, shifting from gurgaon to pune | Gurgaon and pickup areas, Presence or interest | One page per main route; one intercity page for the rest |
| Inbound routes | Bangalore to Gurgaon, Pune to Gurgaon, Other cities | packers and movers bangalore to gurgaon, pune to gurgaon shifting | The origin cities where you can arrange pickup, Presence or interest | Inbound route page explaining who packs at the origin |
| Generic intercity | Intercity, long distance | intercity packers and movers gurgaon, long distance packers and movers | Gurgaon and pickup areas, Presence or interest | Intercity page with from/to fields at the top of the form |
| Vehicle transport (optional) | Car by route, bike by route | car transport gurgaon to bangalore, bike shifting gurgaon to pune | Same as outbound routes | Vehicle transport page with the route named |
- Why separate campaigns, not just ad groups: location targeting and budgets are set per campaign, so mixing local and intercity in one campaign forces them to share both.
- When a route earns its own ad group: when it brings enquiries regularly, you can price it confidently and you have capacity on that lane. Until then, leave it in “Other cities”.
- Ad text: put both cities in at least one headline (“Gurgaon to Bangalore Shifting”) and one checkable trust point, such as a written quote before the move.
How does location targeting work when the customer could be in either city?
Google matches ads to people who are in your targeted locations and, with the default “Presence or interest” setting, also to people who have shown interest in them, for example through the words they search. That second part is what lets a route ad reach a customer who is already in the destination city.
Google’s page on advanced location options describes two target settings. Presence or interest is the default and recommended option: it reaches people who are likely to be in, or regularly in, your targeted locations, and people who have shown interest in them. Presence shows ads only to people who are likely to be located, or regularly located, in those areas. Google’s location targeting help page recommends Presence or interest for Search campaigns, and suggests Presence when you only want users physically in your chosen locations.
How does Google decide? According to its page on targeting geographic locations, physical location is usually based on IP address, or on device location depending on the user’s settings. Interest can come from search terms that point to a place, past searches, past physical locations, Google Maps searches, the content of a site where an ad appears, or a custom location the person set for Search.
| Who is searching | What they type | Which setting can reach them |
|---|---|---|
| Family still in Gurgaon, planning a move | packers and movers gurgaon to pune | Outbound campaign targeting Gurgaon, with either setting |
| Employee who has already joined in Bangalore, family still in Gurgaon | packers and movers from gurgaon to bangalore | Outbound campaign targeting Gurgaon with Presence or interest, because the search names Gurgaon |
| Family in Pune moving to Gurgaon | packers and movers pune to gurgaon | Inbound campaign targeting Pune, or targeting Gurgaon with Presence or interest |
| Someone in Gurgaon moving within Gurgaon | house shifting gurgaon | Local campaign with Presence |
So a sensible starting point is: Presence for the local campaign, because a local shift from Sohna Road needs someone who is actually here, and Presence or interest for route campaigns, because the route keyword already filters for the right searches and the customer may be in either city. With phrase and exact match on route keywords, interest-based matching mostly adds people searching your route from elsewhere, not random visitors.
- Targeting is set per campaign: each campaign has its own locations. Google’s location page also describes an optional ad group “locations of interest” feature, but only inside AI Max for Search campaigns, and users must still meet the campaign’s location targeting.
- Exclusions beat inclusions: Google’s location exclusion page says that if an area is both included and excluded, the exclusion takes priority. For Search, exclusions work on presence, so excluding a city stops people located there, not people elsewhere who are interested in it.
- Do not exclude a destination city account-wide: excluding Bangalore in the local campaign is fine, but excluding it in the outbound campaign would block the employee who has already moved there.
After two or three weeks, open Insights and reports, then “When and where your ads showed”, and check the Matched locations view. Google notes these can be physical locations or locations of interest, so use it to see whether route clicks come from the cities you expected.
How do you build an ad group for one route?
Collect every common way people write that route, put them in one ad group with phrase and exact match, write ads that repeat both city names, and point the group at that route’s page. Keep the opposite direction in a different campaign.
- List the phrasings: “gurgaon to bangalore”, “from gurgaon to bangalore”, “gurugram to bangalore”, “gurgaon to bengaluru”, and the same with “packers and movers”, “house shifting” or “household shifting” in front.
- Decide on cost words: autocomplete shows people search “packers and movers gurgaon to bangalore cost”. These are often real customers comparing quotes, so keep them unless your search terms show otherwise.
- Keep directions apart: “gurgaon to bangalore” and “bangalore to gurgaon” are different jobs with different pickup points. Check the search terms report, and if reversed-route searches show up in the wrong campaign, add them there as negative keywords.
- Separate vehicles if you price them differently: “car transport gurgaon to bangalore” deserves its own ad group or campaign, not the household route group.
- Write two or three responsive search ads: both cities in headlines, the services included (packing, loading, transport, unloading), one trust point and one action (“Call or WhatsApp for a Survey”).
- Add assets: a call asset scheduled for office hours, sitelinks to the route page, car transport and the quote form, and a location asset if your Business Profile is linked.
- Set the final URL to the route page, not the home page.
Google no longer lets advertisers create new call-only ads, so phone enquiries on route searches come through call assets on your search ads. Whether a call, a quote form or Google’s lead form suits intercity enquiries better is covered in today’s call vs lead form vs quote page guide.
What should a route landing page include?
A route page should name both cities in the main heading, explain how that specific move works from survey to delivery, and open with a quote form already set to that route. It must describe what you really do on that lane, not copy the same text with a different city name.
| Section | What to show | Why it matters on a long move |
|---|---|---|
| Heading and form | “Packers and Movers Gurgaon to Bangalore”, form with from/to filled, home size, date | Matches the search and saves the customer typing |
| How the move works | Survey, packing, loading, transit, delivery, unpacking | Customers worry about what happens between the two cities |
| Transport options | Shared or dedicated vehicle, if you offer both, and what each means | Explains why quotes for the same route differ |
| Transit time | Your usual range for this route, only if you can stand behind it | Families plan school, joining dates and rent around it |
| Car and bike | Whether vehicles travel with the goods or separately | Many intercity movers also move a vehicle |
| Delivery end | Who unloads and unpacks at the destination | Builds trust when your office is far from the delivery city |
| Trust points | GST number, real address, written quote, transit insurance option on request | Big jobs make people check you carefully |
- Be honest about where you are: do not claim a branch in a city where you have none. Say you are based in Gurgaon and explain how pickup or delivery is handled at the other end.
- Keep the form short: our guide to moving quote forms that convert explains which fields help and which put people off.
- One intercity page for minor routes: a single page with a from/to selector is better than dozens of near-identical thin route pages.
If your site has no route pages yet, our packers and movers website design work includes city and route pages, an instant quote form with move from/to, home size and date, and WhatsApp and call buttons.
When should route ads run? Setting the ad schedule
Run route search ads with a quote form whenever people search, but show call assets only during hours someone answers the phone. Then use your own hour-of-day and day-of-week results to trim weak periods, rather than assuming when intercity customers search.
Google’s ad scheduling page says campaigns show ads “All day” by default, and you can set specific days and hours or raise and lower bids for them. Its set up an ad schedule page adds two details that matter: schedules follow your account’s time zone, and you can create up to six schedules per day for each campaign.
- Time zone: if your account is set to India time, a schedule works the same for Gurgaon and Bangalore. If someone set it up in another time zone, your “9 AM” may not be India’s 9 AM, so check it first.
- Calls versus forms: an intercity move is a considered decision, and a missed call on a large job is costly. Schedule call assets for office hours and let the route page and quote form collect enquiries at other times.
- Seasons: moving often rises around rental changes, school sessions and job transfer periods. Use your own past enquiry dates to add budget to route campaigns a little before busy weeks.
How do you keep local and intercity budgets apart?
Give local and intercity campaigns their own individual budgets, and only share a budget between campaigns of similar value, such as several outbound route campaigns. Otherwise the high-volume local campaign can use up money meant for fewer, larger intercity jobs.
In Google Ads, the average daily budget is set for each campaign. On a given day a campaign can spend up to twice that average for most campaign types, with the month capped at 30.4 times the daily average. A shared budget is a single average daily budget used by several campaigns, and Google can automatically move money left unused by one campaign to another. Shared budgets are available on Search, Shopping, Display and Video campaigns.
| Setup | What happens | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Local and intercity in one campaign | One budget and one location setting for both; local clicks often take most of it | Avoid for a mover doing both kinds of work |
| Separate campaigns, individual budgets | You decide exactly how much goes to local and to routes | The usual starting point |
| Route campaigns on one shared budget | Unused money moves between route campaigns automatically | When routes are of similar value and you want less manual work |
| Local and intercity on one shared budget | Google moves money between them, not you | Rarely sensible, since the jobs differ so much in size |
- Record every enquiry with the campaign and ad group it came from.
- Mark which enquiries became confirmed moves, and on which route.
- Once a month, compare bookings per route, not just clicks or leads.
- Move budget towards route campaigns that turn enquiries into bookings, and pause routes you cannot serve well.
- Read the search terms report weekly and add wrong cities and reversed routes as negatives in the right campaign.
What drives intercity cost is how many movers bid on the same route, how specific your keywords are, your ad and page quality and the season; today’s guide to Google Ads cost for packers and movers explains these factors. To know which route actually pays, every call, WhatsApp click and form must be tracked, as set out in our conversion tracking guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should intercity moves be a separate Google Ads campaign from local shifting?
Yes, in most cases. Location targeting and budgets are set per campaign, so a separate intercity campaign lets you use a different location setting, keep its own budget and measure route bookings on their own. If local and intercity share one campaign, the busier local searches tend to take most of the budget and the location setting has to suit both jobs.
Should movers use Presence or Presence or interest in Google Ads?
A common approach is Presence for local shifting, because the customer must be in your area, and Presence or interest for route campaigns. Google describes Presence or interest as the default and recommended option for Search. It can reach someone already in the destination city who searches your route, which matters when one family member moves ahead for work.
How many route ad groups should a packers and movers campaign have?
Give a route its own ad group when it brings enquiries regularly, you can quote it confidently and you have capacity on that lane. Put quieter routes into one “other cities” ad group that points to a general intercity page. Review your search terms and bookings each month and split out any route that keeps growing.
Do I need a separate landing page for every route?
Not for every route. Build dedicated pages for your main routes, with both cities in the heading, the move process, transport options and a quote form already set to that route. Minor routes can share one intercity page with a from/to selector. Avoid many near-identical pages that only swap city names, because they add little for customers.
Can I advertise moves into Gurgaon from other cities?
Yes, if you can actually handle packing and loading at the origin city. Use an inbound route campaign targeting the origin cities, or Gurgaon with Presence or interest, and a page explaining who does the packing at the other end. Do not claim a branch or office in a city where you have none.
