Key takeaways

  • Your phone connects to the DVR or NVR, not to each camera, so the recorder must be on the internet through your router first.
  • Adding the recorder by scanning its QR code (P2P or cloud ID) in the maker’s official app is the simplest method; IP address and port is the alternative.
  • Most ‘offline’ problems come from the router, a changed IP address or password, a full hard disk or a slow mobile connection, and the sub-stream fixes slow viewing.
  • Change default passwords, update firmware, never share the device password on WhatsApp and give staff their own limited access.

How do you connect a CCTV camera to your mobile?

Connect the DVR or NVR to your internet router with a LAN cable, install your recorder maker’s official app, add the device by scanning the QR code on the recorder (its P2P or cloud ID) or by typing its IP address and port, enter the device password, and open live view or playback. The cameras never talk to your phone directly; the recorder does.

Whether the cameras guard a shop on Sohna Road, an office in Udyog Vihar or a house in a DLF phase, you need:

  • A working recorder: a DVR for analog HD cameras on coaxial cable, or an NVR for IP cameras on network cable.
  • Internet at the site: a broadband or fibre router that stays switched on.
  • A LAN cable from the recorder’s network port to the router.
  • The device password created when the recorder was first set up. This is not your app login.
  • The QR code or serial number, on a sticker on the recorder or in its network menu.
  • The recorder maker’s official app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

DVR or NVR? Our IP vs analog camera guide explains the difference.

How do you connect a DVR or NVR to your phone, step by step?

Get the recorder online first, then add it to the app with its QR code. Menu names differ by maker, but the pattern is the same.

  1. Connect the recorder to the router with a LAN cable, and plug a monitor into the recorder’s HDMI or VGA port so you can see its menu.
  2. Check the network settings: turn on DHCP or set a fixed IP address in your router’s range, and confirm the gateway and DNS are filled in.
  3. Turn on P2P or cloud access: find the menu called P2P, cloud or platform access, enable it and wait until the status shows online.
  4. Install your recorder maker’s official app and create an app account with your own email or mobile number.
  5. Add the device: tap the plus sign, choose scan QR code and point the phone at the sticker on the recorder or the code on the monitor.
  6. Enter the device password when the app asks, and give the device a clear name such as ‘Shop’ or ‘Home’.
  7. Open live view, select your cameras, then open playback and confirm yesterday’s recording appears.

Without P2P, you can add the recorder by IP address or domain name and port instead. That needs a static public IP or a dynamic DNS name plus port forwarding on the router, so it takes more work and more care with security.

How do you connect a Wi-Fi CCTV camera to your phone?

A standalone Wi-Fi camera pairs with its maker’s app and then joins your Wi-Fi network, with no DVR in between. These cameras suit a single shop counter, a small clinic reception or a home entrance.

  1. Power the camera and wait for the light or voice prompt that says it is ready to pair.
  2. Install the camera maker’s official app, sign in and tap add device.
  3. Scan the QR code on the camera body or box, or pick the camera type from the list.
  4. Choose your Wi-Fi network and type its password. Many of these cameras join only the 2.4 GHz band, so select that band if your router broadcasts two.
  5. If the app shows a QR code, hold the phone screen in front of the lens, or join the camera’s own hotspot when asked.
  6. Insert a microSD card, format it from the app and choose continuous or motion-based recording.

Keep the camera within good range of the router; a weak signal is the usual reason a Wi-Fi camera keeps dropping off the app. For more than a few cameras, a wired DVR or NVR system is easier to manage.

How do you see CCTV cameras on a PC?

On a computer you have three options: the recorder maker’s PC client, a web browser pointed at the recorder’s IP address, or video management software (VMS) on a Windows PC.

  • Maker’s PC client: a free desktop program from the recorder maker’s official website. Add the device by IP address or cloud ID.
  • Web browser: on the same network, type the recorder’s IP address into a browser and log in with the device password.
  • VMS on a Windows PC: software that records and plays back the cameras on the PC itself. DVM VigiCore runs on Windows 10, 11 or Windows Server, works with any ONVIF IP camera that streams RTSP, supports H.264 and H.265, and opens in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on the server or any PC on your LAN.

A VMS makes sense when you want footage on disks you own, a large live-view grid or several users with different permissions. Analog cameras on a DVR can be used only through a DVR that offers RTSP streams.

How do you check, zoom and play back CCTV footage on mobile?

Use live view to check the cameras right now, playback to check that they actually recorded, and pinch-to-zoom or the PTZ controls to zoom in.

  • Check live view: tap each camera tile. A black tile or ‘no video’ points to a camera, cable or power fault.
  • Check recording: open playback, pick yesterday’s date and scrub the timeline. Gaps mean recording stopped for that period.
  • Check the hard disk: its status in the app or recorder menu should read normal, not error or unformatted.
  • Digital zoom: pinch outward on the picture. It only enlarges pixels, so detail softens as you zoom.
  • Optical zoom: only PTZ or motorised varifocal cameras truly zoom, and the app shows zoom and focus buttons for them.
  • Switch quality: choose HD for detail on Wi-Fi and SD, the sub-stream, to save mobile data.

For a shop, check playback once a week, not just live view, so a stopped recording is found before you need a clip.

Why is my CCTV not showing on mobile?

Most ‘offline’ or ‘no video’ problems come from the recorder losing internet, a changed password or IP address, a full or failed hard disk, or a slow phone connection. Work through this table before calling your installer.

ProblemLikely causeWhat to try
Device shows offline in the appRouter off or restarted, loose LAN cable, P2P switched off, recorder IP changedRestart the router and recorder, reseat the LAN cable, confirm P2P shows online in the recorder menu
Wrong password or account lockedDevice password changed, or too many wrong attemptsWait out the lock period, then update the saved device password in the app; a forgotten admin password needs the maker’s official reset process
No internet at the shopBroadband down, plan expired, or a power cut at the routerPut the router and recorder on a UPS; recording continues locally and the app reconnects when the line returns
Live view works but playback is emptyHard disk full with overwrite off, or disk failed or unformattedTurn on overwrite in storage settings; replace a disk that shows an error
Slow or buffering on mobile dataThe main stream is too heavy for the connectionSwitch tiles to SD, the sub-stream, and view fewer cameras at once
Works on home Wi-Fi, not outsideDevice was added by local IP onlyRe-add it with the QR code or a public address

If the app stopped working right after a new router was fitted, the recorder has usually picked up a new IP address. Check its network menu first.

How do you keep CCTV viewing on your phone secure?

Treat the CCTV app like a banking app: change default passwords, keep firmware current and give access only to people who need it.

  • Change the default password on the recorder and every camera on day one, and use a long password you do not use anywhere else.
  • Update firmware on the recorder and cameras from the maker’s official website or app, and keep the app itself updated.
  • Don’t share the device password over WhatsApp or SMS. Use the app’s share or sub-user feature so you can remove a person later.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication for your app account if the app offers it.
  • Limit who has access: give staff view-only rights, remove former employees promptly and review the shared list regularly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cctv camera kaise connect kare: how do I connect a CCTV camera to my mobile?

Connect the DVR or NVR to your router with a LAN cable and turn on P2P or cloud access in its network menu. Install the recorder maker’s official app, tap add device and scan the QR code on the recorder. Enter the device password, and the cameras appear in live view. Open playback to confirm that recordings are visible too.

Which CCTV camera app should I use on Android or iPhone?

Use the official app from the company that made your recorder or Wi-Fi camera, downloaded from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. The QR code and setup steps are designed for that app. Avoid unknown third-party viewer apps that ask for your device password, because you cannot tell where that password or your video ends up.

Can I watch my CCTV cameras on a PC or laptop?

Yes. Install the recorder maker’s PC client and add the device by IP address or cloud ID, or type the recorder’s IP address into a browser on the same network. A VMS such as DVM VigiCore runs on a Windows PC, records ONVIF IP cameras that stream RTSP, and opens in Chrome, Edge or Firefox on any PC on your LAN.

Cctv camera kaise check kare: how do I check whether my CCTV is recording?

Open the app, go to playback, choose yesterday’s date and scrub through the timeline. A continuous bar means the camera recorded; gaps mean it stopped. Also check the hard disk status in the app or recorder menu, which should read normal. Do this for every camera once a week, because live view alone does not prove anything was saved.

Cctv camera zoom kaise kare: how do I zoom a CCTV camera on mobile?

In live view or playback, pinch outward with two fingers to use digital zoom. It enlarges the existing pixels, so the picture gets softer as you zoom further. Only PTZ or motorised varifocal cameras offer true optical zoom, and for those the app shows zoom and focus buttons. Switch the tile to HD before zooming for the most detail.

Why does my CCTV show offline on mobile?

Usually the recorder has lost internet: the router is off, the LAN cable is loose, the broadband plan has lapsed or the recorder got a new IP address. Restart the router and recorder, check that P2P shows online in the recorder menu, and confirm the saved device password is current. If only mobile data fails, switch to the sub-stream.

What CCTV setup suits a shop that needs mobile viewing?

A wired DVR or NVR with cameras on the counter, cash drawer, entrance and stock area, connected by LAN cable to a broadband router on a UPS. Add the recorder to the owner’s phone with the QR code, give staff view-only access, and turn on overwrite so recording never stops when the hard disk fills up.
